Developing a Love for Reading in the Classroom and Home

One thing that I have always encouraged and hoped my children would have is a love for reading.  Miss Madison definitely shares that love with her Mom.  She has been a book nerd for as long as I can remember.  My boys not so much.  There are many things they would rather grab on most days than a book. One thing that I have always appreciated as a parent is teachers who make reading fun.

One of the motivators for my middle son was when his teacher chose a book or series and read them in the classroom.  There have been several through out the years.  His second grade teacher introduced the classroom to the American Girl Books.  She even had classroom book sets for the kids to use during reading time or check out to take home.  I would have never picked out this series for my son but he enjoyed them .  His third grade teacher did Captain Underpants and after reading just a couple of times in class he requested that I buy them for him.  He read the entire series that year.   Now he is in High School and reading is definitely not his go to choice for entertainment.  Maybe this will change with age.

Then there is little man. He has not yet learned to read.  I am hoping his teachers in the years to come will be encouraging and share a love for reading with him also.  I can't wait  to see what classroom picks he will have through the years.
